外国语学院学术沙龙第34期顺利举行——聚焦课堂观察促进教师专业发展

7月7日下午,我院学术沙龙第34期在215会议室成功举办。本次沙龙特邀加拿大西部大学(University Canada West)英语与传播学副教授、国际知名语言教育专家Shahid Abrar-ul-Hassan作题为 Leveraging Classroom Observation for Reflective Professional Growth的专题讲座。冯正斌院长在讲座伊始致辞,欢迎嘉宾到访并对全体教师提出殷切期望。随后,研究生公共外语教学部主任茹英博士担任讲座主持并介绍嘉宾。

Abrar-ul-Hassan结合自己20余年的教学和教师培训经验,分享了课堂观察在教师互助成长、诊断性研究、教学评估等多方面的实践价值。他指出,优秀教师的共同特质在于积极的态度、灵活的方法和对学习情境的深入理解,社会文化因素和学习者主动性是课堂成功的关键。讲座中,他以项目案例生动展示了结构化课堂观察任务的设计,包括课前目标设定、观察记录和课后反馈,并提供了规划、实施、反思三阶段的操作流程。他还引导参会师生思考并交流教学中可观察和改进的领域,鼓励将观察结果应用于持续专业发展。

讲座最后,Abrar-ul-Hassan指出:“要真正帮助学生学习,我们需要的不是最新的方法,而是对课堂及其运作的更深刻理解。”他强调持续的课堂观察、行动研究和在课堂中的反思学习是教师成长和教学成功的核心路径。

参会师生表示通过此次讲座不仅加深了对课堂观察的认识,也获得了将观察转化为教学改进的有效方法,对个人教学与专业发展具有重要启发。

主讲人介绍

Shahid Abrar-ul-Hassan is an internationally recognized expert in language education, currently serving as Associate Professor of English and Communications at University Canada West in Vancouver. With over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and teacher development, he has made significant contributions to the fields of ESP/EAP, language assessment, cross-cultural communication, and teacher training. As an active scholar, he co-edits special issues for top-tier journals like English for Specific Purposes (Elsevier, SSCI) and has previously served as editor for TESOL Journal. His research has been published in leading SSCI-indexed journals, including System and SAGE Open. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered keynote addresses and conducted professional development sessions across Asia, North America, the Middle East, and beyond.

His distinguished career includes visiting professorships at Southeast University (China), University of Brunei Darussalam, and advisory roles at the University of Missouri (USA). Recognized for excellence, he has received awards such as the Distinguished Instructor Award (2010) and the Nan Poliakoff Memorial Award (2021).He holds an MA in TESOL from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (USA) and a PhD in Education from the University of British Columbia (Canada).
